The project

In British Columbia in Western Canada, a residential building with a flat wooden floor slab was built. The project aims to create affordable and ecological living space in the Canadian reserves of the Fist Nation. The use of wood as the main material throughout the structure not only supports the sustainable use of natural resources, but also reflects the First Nation's traditional building methods and respect for nature. The home is not only cost-efficient and environmentally friendly, but also offers a sustainable way of life. The project comprises a 1-bedroom apartment with a passive house standard (1-DEN) on an area of approx. 74 m². The building was divided into two prefabricated modular units and installed on site in just one week. Thanks to the precise prefabrication, it was possible to combine a fast construction time with the highest quality of workmanship.

The challenge

The property's remote location, three hours away from the nearest town, presented a challenge for the project. This required precise logistics and planning. During execution, the focus was on the precise positioning of the modules. They were placed on the wooden base plate with millimetre precision to ensure a successful installation. Topographically, the adjacent lakeshore is at least 15 feet lower than the construction site. This does not affect the wooden base plate, however, ensuring long-term stability.
